Importance of ICE (In Case of Emergency) contact number in mobile phone contact list.

ICE is the short form of In Case of Emergency contact number in mobile phone contact list.
The fact behind ICE awareness:
If someone met with an accident and became unconscious, then passerby as well as police would try to contact his/her near n dear one through the victim's mobile contact list. But it has been observed that it is near impossible to find out the name of the family members as there is no rule or system exists to save family members in contact list.
So if all of us save at-least two phone numbers as
ICE- Father (YYY name)
ICE-Wife (xxx name)
ICE- Son/Daughter (zzz name)

Then anyone can call these numbers to inform the status of the victim such as the nature of accident/ injuries/ location of hospital to which he/she admitted.

It can also be used in case of loss of mobile phone.

Three- four years back, there was a campaign for the awareness about ICE in India. But it was not a successful campaign due to less publicity in print n electronic media.

IGNOU launches interview preparation platform for job aspirants

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), along with VMock, has launched a Virtual Platform for enhancing employability of its job aspiring population, spread across national and international borders.

The Finishing School initiative, spearheaded by the Campus Placement Cell (CPC) and eGyankosh on the IGNOU FlexiLearn platform, aims to enable learners prepare and practice for job interviews at their own place and pace.

The service was launched during the Higher Education Summit in New Delhi, organized by the Centre for Science Development and Media Studies (CSDMS), with IGNOU as its Knowledge Partner.

"The IGNOU-VMock online platform enables candidates to practice for job interviews and improve via feedback. The strategy enables learners to know themselves, create their own video persona, answer career specific mock questions and take feedback from friends, alumni and IGNOU mentors already available on Facebook, LinkedIn and other social networks. It is a boon for all job seekers since it effectively takes care of their Last-Mile to Employability" said Vice Chancellor Prof V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, while launching the service.

The platform is available to all interested candidates across disciplines at Rs.1,100 (Rs.1,000 as access fee plus Rs100 as registration fee). A special discount - 50 percent for IGNOU learners and Rs.600 for IGNOU alumni - is being offered for a limited period only.

VMock is connected to almost all major social networks. All that learners require to get started is a computer with webcam and 128kbps internet connection. They can register themselves online through the IGNOU FlexiLearn portal.

"The objective behind this enabling service is to empower learners to practice, rehearse, retake, repeat and continuously improve and refine their interview skills till they are confident to excel. Once registered, they can continue to practice for a validity period of six months," said Dr Neeta Kapai, Director, Campus Placement Cell.

The Top Ten Strategies of A Great Interview

The Top Ten Strategies of A Great Interview

You've just received a call to interview with your dream company. Do you know how to prepare for the interview so that you'll feel confident, have a good experience and set yourself apart from others? Try the following steps below and you'll not only be well prepared, you'll present yourself as a true professional.

1.Research the company:
Do your homework, e.g. Go to the company's website and read about the employers vision, strategy, competitive advantages, products, finances, departments, etc. If the company doesn't have a web presence look them up at the library, call the Better Business Bureau or Chamber of Commerce, find out who they are, what products they sell, and something about their competitors.

2. Prepare your elevator speech:
This is your two-minute opportunity to enlighten the interviewer about your chief accomplishments. Please note, this is not the same as your responsibilities. Employers want to know what you did, not what you were charged with doing.

3. Prepare your talking points:
Craft a list of your 4 greatest strengths and the 4 things you're currently working on for professional growth. Be prepared to give examples of each. e.g.

Strengths :
1. My + attitude
2. Sincerity
3. Presentation skill

Working on for improvement for growth:
1. weight management
2. Stress control

4. Identify innovations / process improvements you made in your most recent employment

Employers want to know how hiring you will make their organization better and contribute to the execution of their strategy. (Assuming you did your homework in step # 1 you can offer examples of innovations or revenue saving ideas that will be of interest to the potential employer.)

5. Dress for success :
The way you dress makes a statement about yourself. Regardless of the job that you're applying for, it's a good idea to wear a freshly laundered suit even in a casual business environment.

6. Arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment.

7. Engage in a dialogue

8. Tell the truth

9. Don't talk about salary or benefits.

The goal is to get as many options going as possible so don't talk about compensation too early in the game, it can be a knockout factor. Tell the employer on all that you can do for them. If they're interested, they'll make an offer and then you can start negotiating both issues.

10.Remember, you're interviewing the employer just as they are interviewing you. 50 % of the responsibility for the right job match is yours.
