Meingal scholarships for Bishnupriya Manipuris

GUWAHATI, July 3 – Meingal, a Guwahati based NGO has announced three welfare schemes for the Bishnupriya Manipuri students and women for the current year, a press release stated.

The schemes are Meingal Scholarship, Monthly Educational Allowance and Meingal Exemplary Talent Award.

Under the Meingal Scholarship, one time scholarship of Rs 5000/- will be awarded to the students who have passed HSLC Exam with 60 per cent and above. The scholarship will be awarded to six students from the district of Kamrup, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailkandi, one from Meghalaya and one from Arunachal Pradesh.

The NGO had decided to extend financial support to bear the monthly expenditure incurred in education with an allowance of Rs 750/- per month for a year to 10 students. Under this scheme, students who are reading in Class IX, X, XI and XII in any stream
in the current academic session are applicable. The annual income of the parents should be less than Rs1,00,000 /- and should work in non-government organisation/private firm, self employed, unemployed, casual labours etc. The valid income certificate of the parents along with the school reading certificate has to be submitted.

The NGO has also decided to introduce an award named as Meingal Exemplary Talent Award. Under this scheme for the current year, the women (“Beyapa”) group from the society have been selected for the award. All women of 18 years age and above are eligible for the award irrespective of unmarried or married or widow and unemployed or employed who are original residents of Assam and Tripura. The nomination can be sent by self or recommended by others supported with documentary proof of their outstanding performance and achievements in their respective fields/areas of excellence. The awards includes a trophy, certificate and a cash award.

The NGO has also decided to conduct an essay writing competition on the on the topic - “Exemplary role of women in my life and in the Bishnupriya Manipuri Society”. The same essay can be written in Bishnupriya Manipuri language on the topic - “Mor Jivone baro Bishnupriya Manipuri Somaje Beyapar Dristantomulok Bhumika”. The essay should be written either in English or Bishnupriya Manipuri within 1200 words. The competition is open for all Bishnupriya Manipuri people of India and abroad and should be above 18 years of age and above.
